Movie Reviews - Bright

By Dan StevensMovie Reviews this week looks at the alternative futuristic sci-fi movie Bright starring the stalwart Will Smith (Independence Day), who always brings a certain bravado, signifying a touch of danger to his roles. We join the movie finding out that orcs, elves, and humans all live together in a futuristic alternative universe, where elves are in charge; the bourgeoisie of the planet, humans are the middle class, and orcs are not just the working class but are looked down upon, by both humans and elves, the basis of this being that in some distant war, thousands of years ago the orcs pledged their allegiance to the Dark Lord, and although they lost the war, they have been underfoot in the midst of the other races from then on. It does a very blatant comparison to any unjust society through any era of human civilisation and for this, it deserves recognition. We meet Daryl Ward played by Will Smith (Independence Day), who is a cop looking just trying to survive till his pensi…

Using Success Magick to Find Your Breakthrough

By Donald B. Johnson What does success mean to you, really? This is an interesting topic because most people don't get what success means to them, yet they want it - desperately. Like right now. If you were at the store and didn't know what you wanted. Would it be reasonable to expect that thing to be in your cart already? Of course it's not.You would have to first define what you mean by success, but thankfully that's not the difficult part. We each have our own personal version of success in a way, and that helps us all to achieve whatever we focus on. Literally not what most people think of when they think of success. Do you see where I'm going now? This is about setting your own goals, your own breakthrough threshold so that when you cross the finish line (just a small mini goal - you'll have several goals over time) you will know when you've reached each achievement. Very simple, isn't it?Now, why don't dive we into some helpful spirits... Yeyay…

A Simple Tool For Evaluating Politicians

By Bob RothPoliticians in every area of our lives can and should be evaluated against the highest standards of behavior, performance and character before we support them. Political leaders need to know that we have high expectations and will hold them accountable for what they say and do.The tool that follows will give College Students and others a way to determine how well a Politician's thinking and behavior matches up with the evaluator's expectations. Students should read each statement carefully and make a strong effort to be objective.Your response to each statement should be supported with multiple facts and examples. Cherry picking and including only single events and limited information that supports personal biases will make the results worthless. No evaluation tool works well when it is improperly used to support existing beliefs rather than reveal the truth. How To Use This Evaluation Toola) Name of the Politician: ______________________________________Title/Locati…

Learning Or Unlearning?

By Tim Connor Learning is either a passive or active process, but unlearning must be and can only be an active process. But first a few important questions. What if you are learning stuff you don't need, will never use or is a waste of time and resources? What if you are learning stuff that is wrong or just really temporary? What if you are not learning what is or could be the most valuable lessons of your life as you move forward? What if some of your prejudices, opinions, history, attitudes - whatever - are preventing you from learning what you need to learn to be happy, successful or contented?Stupid questions? I don't think so.One more - do you need to unlearn some stuff to finally achieve the dreams, success, happiness or goals that you want to be part of your future? What do I mean by unlearning? Two quick and probably dumb examples but they will make it clear what I am talking about. The Earth is flat. Well, that's what everyone thought for a long time. Then they had …

First Week On Fiverr ($500 Earned)

By Richard Peck Fiverr is a freelancing platform designed in Israel to provide users with the ability to purchase "gigs" for as little as $5.Launched in 2010, the service has grown exponentially thanks in part to its availability to digital marketers - everyone from SEO's to Amazon FBA power sellers outsourcing menial tasks to the experts offering their services through the platform.By 2015, stories began to emerge of service providers making substantive revenue/profit from the system, with one - SPXMAC - reporting $40,000+ revenue per month (a remarkable achievement). With this in mind, people with genuine skills, experience and expertise to offer have been drawn to providing their services through the system, me included. To this end, I felt it appropriate to share some of the progress I made with the platform. It's not a huge amount but might give some people insight into what works and what doesn't.Fiverr's Online System (How It Works)The most important th…

You Can't Save Your Parents

By Oliver JR Cooper When I first got into self-development, I shared a lot of what I had learnt with my parents. This was partly because I wanted to share what I had learnt and partly because I thought it could help them.I soon came to see that I was wasting my time, and that it was far better for me to keep most of what I had learnt to myself. I didn't think it was worth the hassle of being put down and treated as though I was trying to sell them a virus. One DirectionThey were both experiencing a lot of stress, but this didn't mean that they actually wanted to do anything about it. Consequently, their health was only going to get worse over time, and there was very little that I could do.I was brought up to believe that other people's needs were more important than my own, which caused me to believe that I was responsible for other people's needs. Said another way, it was my fault if they were not happy. My RoleSo, as I was responsible for others, I believed that it w…

Understanding And Transcending Past Pain And Sorrow Through Magick

By Donald B. Johnson Letting go of past pain and discomfort from the past is one thing. Understanding it and moving beyond it so that you have learned from it is another thing entirely. This is what separates those who learn a deep life lesson from those who let time heal their wounds, only to find that those same wounds open up later causing them great pain and frustrating. Time doesn't heal wounds like that. We think it does, until we confront those painful lessons later and realize it is not resolved whatsoever. Can you imagine if you did that with something like your car?You pretend that the problem is fixed, and drive it around ignoring the fact it doesn't quite run correctly. Then suddenly - randomly - one day it doesn't run at all. That's not what anyone wants to deal with - and if you allow those old significant issues to linger around - it's going to run you over emotionally once you remember you didn't want to deal with it when it was supposed to be …

Embracing A Prosperous And Abundant Life For The Long Term Through Magick

By Donald B. Johnson If you've ever wondered how you could live a more plentiful and abundant life - you're going to discover how the spirits can help you embrace and prosper in a very successful life long term. We are talking about true abundance and success here - something that perfectly fits your life and allows you to be perfectly happy without any life confusion. That's not a small thing either - to know yourself and how you want to be in the future in your career and personal life; people just don't think like this normally and it is almost rare to understand yourself this deeply. Sometimes we just need a little nudge in the right direction, and in other cases we need the spirits to guide us a little more so that we fully align with what success and prosperity means to us. This can be a bumpy ride if you believe the wrong things and follow the wrong path. That is why we have very powerful spirits working with us so that our journey is not de-railed early on and…

Do Some Humans Have Telepathic Abilities?

By Lance WinslowDo some humans now have telepathic abilities, yes, but it is spotty, hit and miss. Are some humans better at this than others, of course, and with practice these humans could hone their skills and eventually be more accurate with it. Now then, it probably is possible for most humans to do limited telepathy, but with all the frequency pollution of our electronic world, all the Chlorine and Fluoride in the water, all the over-eating humans do, it's probably not very probably, even with practice for 90% of the humans on Earth. Still, when we discover tribes of humans that have been isolated and on their own, they seem to be good at this. There are documented cases in Africa of tribes doing this, and mothers and babies seem to communicate too. Maybe it is the bacteria in the gut that does this, maybe it is quantum communication, detectable by the body's neurons in the gut? I am not sure how this works.Dolphins seem to have the ability to communicate without making…

Emergency Kit - Testing

By Jake BucklandWhy should you test your emergency kit?Testing your emergency kit is the most valuable way of evaluating its effectiveness. Testing can determine whether people have the skills, abilities and resources necessary to survive. Sadly, when many people buy their emergency kit, they often store them away until they're actually in an emergency. If you do that, you won't understand how to use the product and may waste vital time and energy during a crisis. Instead, take some time to go through your survival bag and get to know the items that might save your life.Do you know how to use a survival blanket? Think again.Your emergency kit may have a survival blanket, test it because it's one of the most misunderstood types of survival tools. These blankets aren't meant to warm you up; instead, it slows down heat loss from your body. These foil blankets don't breathe so your sweat can become trapped, resulting in hypothermia. For that reason, you want to have a…

Why Trusting Your Gut Is Imperative

By Chris Atley The count down is ON for the end of school around our house!! Anyone else feeling the extra busy-ness of what comes with the end of school?! This year I was a little more prepared, with being conscious in advance of what I was taking on work wise at this time of year. My intention was to be present for everything the kids have going on, and we have a lot more of it this year with Jude finishing Grade 6. There are many celebrations and ceremonies to be had! This week I had another reminder on why it's so important for us to trust our gut. I almost talked myself out of doing it and I'm so glad I didn't. Our minds can be sneaky with trying to talk us into stuff. Read on to learn how to identify these important "instinctual" messages and how to trust them even when your mind is trying very hard to convince you otherwise This week I almost said yes to something I was having a strong gut feeling to not do. I knew exactly in the moment that this was a &qu…

Food Storage: Storing Your Leftovers Safely

By Bonnie R Giller After a great party or dinner celebration, deciding what to do with a table full of leftovers may not be at the forefront of your mind, but it's an important part of partying. It's certainly a pity to waste good food, but letting leftovers linger without temperature control can be unsafe. Any food left out for more than two hours is susceptible to harmful bacterial growth and should be disposed of. This goes for any part of the meal, and it's especially important if your leftovers have been sitting out in the summer heat. This holds true for both cold and hot foods, so be sure to serve foods immediately before mealtime and store anything that's sitting out as soon as the meal is coming to a close.Bacteria thrive between 41 and 140 degrees Fahrenheit - this is known as the temperature "Danger Zone" for food storage. As soon as the food hits that range, bacteria start growing immediately, so the less time spent in that zone, the safer the fo…

Decorate Your Plate With Fruits & Vegetables of the Rainbow

By Bonnie R Giller Decades of research has proven time and again how important fruits and vegetables are in a nutritious, balanced eating plan. Studies have shown that 7 servings of fruits and vegetables per day has the greatest effect in preventing chronic diseases. If you're someone who can barely eat a small salad, that probably sounds pretty overwhelming! How much is enough? Here is a guide to define a serving of fruits and vegetables:1/2 cup cooked vegetables1 piece of medium sized fruit, such as an apple, orange, or peach1 cup salad 8 strawberries1/2 cup cooked beans, peas or lentils1 cup diced fresh or cup canned fruit 1 medium potato2 pieces smaller fruit, such as an apricot or kiwi1/2 medium sweet potatoI want to start by saying you do NOT have to start aiming for 7 per day. Any increases are going to have positive effects, so don't feel like you have to substitute your rice for radishes forever. Think of it as an opportunity to find areas for improvement. Pump Up th…

Pulque in Mexico: Synthesis of Medicinal and Mythical Properties

By Alvin Starkman Since the pre-Hispanic era in Mexico, and continuing to date, there have been several species of agave used to extract aguamiel (honeywater). Once this sweet, coconut-milk-like liquid is removed from the heart of the succulent and thereby exposed to bacteria and yeasts in the environment, it ferments and becomes viscous. Fermented aguamiel is known as pulque. Over hundreds of years, and more likely millennia, medicinal properties have been attributed to pulque, by means of myths which have been passed down through generations of indigenous populations, and more recently as a result of scientific inquiry (not without contraindications regarding the latter). As might be expected the literature is not always consistent in both its factual underpinnings and conjecture. Nevertheless a lay synthesis in a summary fashion does serve to illuminate. Pulque, for a couple of hundred years had been associated with an elixir for the masses, a mild intoxicant with curative powers.…

The Joseph Moment

By Steve Wickham Genesis tells of a moment in Joseph's life when he provided a commentary on his life in one sentence:Speaking to his brothers who had abused him, and having come into power enough to banish them, Joseph says, 'You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result - the survival of many people.' (Genesis 50:20 CSB)Astonishing. That Joseph could comprehend the overall Kingdom purpose in his suffering. That Joseph could forgive his brothers for their betrayal. That Joseph seemed to have grown beyond his impetuous youth. That Joseph led as the godly prime minister of Egypt, the heathen nation, under Pharaoh. That Joseph, used of God, led in such a way as to interpret the times and institute decisive wisdom.Psalm 37 is a wisdom psalm that promises the vindication of the faithful in verses 5-6:"Commit your way to the Lord;trust in him, and he will act, making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noond…

The Problem of Header Bidding Complex Configuration for Website Owners - Setting Up a Wrapper

By Nataly Tolliday To start using Header Bidding on a site the publisher first needs a wrapper. In essence header bidding wrapper adoption is the placing of a core script that sends out requests to allocated bidders and collects returned bids. There are various wrapper solutions available but the market leader is prebid.js with its open and free of charge source code. To use prebid.js the publisher needs to place JavaScript in the header of their site. The script then sends ad requests to bidders. When the page is loaded the script sends out the requests to all added bidders simultaneously and gathers bids for ad placements. The ad displayed is from the highest price bidder. The entire process takes mere milliseconds. In reality, it's not that simple to set up and run such a wrapper if a publisher does not have access to sufficient programming skills and technical expertise. In this case, a website owner may bring in external developers to implement their header bidding but at a s…

The Meltdown

By Steve WickhamThis is one of those vulnerable articles. It's hoped that as I share about my/our weaknesses you too will be encouraged to own and accept your weaknesses, defeating any perfectionistic stride that tends to disrupt and even destroy relationships.Meltdown: think nuclear plant meltdown where the nuclear core is severely overheated and catastrophic damage results. We have a five-year-old, and very recently something happened that often happens at his age-and-stage. He had a meltdown. The process normally goes like this. Creative idea, build something, doesn't work, frustration sets in, destroy the creation in anger. Not all the time, just occasionally. Dealing with pre-school children all the time, and having had another three children who are now adults, there's nothing alarming in it. Besides, our five-year-old has witnessed us having meltdowns - and I can speak only for myself here. There are all sorts of meltdowns, not just the angry ones, but also the teary…
