They can guide you in your writing as well.Read... What have you read recently? If you're trying to write, it's wise to read. In the words of Stephen King: "If you don't have the time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that." Read within your genre to discover what makes it tick. Read the classics to discover what creates staying power. Read widely and read often. You may write historical fiction, but scifi could still teach you an interesting lesson about effective dialogue. Or, you might write spy thrillers, but reading a romance could help you learn about the nuances of nonverbal communication.Write... Write, even if it's a paragraph. Once you write something, the rest will follow. In the words of Chinese philosophy, "A journey of a thousand miles begins…

Who Are Our Spirit Guides

By Gary WonningThe Spirit Guides are extensions of souls in a sense, and they are always connected with The Source of All That Is. They are our helpers in the spirit world. They come from all walks of life and many times are our departed friends and ancestors who have come to guide and assist us. Many times we have known each other through many incarnations and existences in the other world. It is always a matter of choice to become a guide: not all souls choose to be spirit guides. There are many souls who continue their spiritual evolution without choosing this elevated purpose, and often times they choose to be a guide, then choose not to for a time. As with all things, because of free will, the choice is theirs. The decision is often made depending on how it will fulfill their own spiritual evolution, and the ones they are assisting. The Guide's consciousness is more elevated because they exist at the same level of consciousness even if they choose to take a physical form. Many t…

By Sergei VanBellinghenAll through existence, finding the meaning of your life is a question that follows you like a shadow. There is no escaping it as all of us feel like leaving a mark in this world at one point or another. You are not just a cosmic accident. Life is not only about existing but about living well and with purpose. What if you lived your whole life only to discover it was wrong? Do you know why you are here? Are you ever asking yourself what will be different if you followed what is really important to you?Well, if you do not know the reason why you are here, then I encourage you to find out what your purpose is. Yes, there is a meaning to your life. Your existence is fragile. I do not want to be a 'killjoy' but, in truth, your light or mine could just flicker out and we could be gone in an instant."There is not one big cosmic meaning for all; there is only the meaning we each give to our life, an individual meaning, an individual plot, like an individual…

How to Map Social Networks

By Mik Baerber Mapping starts with the larger concept of theory. Under this theory, you map social networks through the use of nodes and ties. A node is a single point on the network, either an individual or a group, such as a business. The ties are the connections between the nodes. Visually, a map will usually take the form of a number of circles connected by lines. Lines may vary in length and thickness to represent the various connection types between the members of the network. analysis software can help with creating these maps.Researchers use social network theory to examine families, social groups, companies, organizations, and even countries. In the online world, it is possible to take a broader view of the many ways people meet and connect on the Internet. Why Learn How to Map

Network Implementation

By Md Iqbal HossainUNIX / LinuxThe UNIX operating systems are built around the TCP/IP protocols, and while all have certain similarities, they vary greatly in their capabilities. This is due to the variations in the additional software included with the operating system and the commercial (or non-commercial) nature of the various products. Some UNIX variants are commercial products marketed by large software companies, such as Hewlett Packard, Sun Microsystems, and IBM. Others are developed and maintained as part of the open source movement, in which volunteer programmers work on the software in their spare time, usually communicating with their colleagues over the Internet, and freely releasing their work to the public domain. There are many different UNIX operating systems that you can download from the Internet free of charge, such as FreeBSD, NetBSD, and various forms of Linux.UNIX is primarily an application server platform, and is typically associated with Internet services, su…

Weight Loss Versus Weight Gain

By Norma Holt In the last few weeks my sudden heart attack sent me into the cardiology ward of the local hospital. Although thinking my body was generally healthy and because I do not take in sugar or salt I was somewhat amazed at the food served in the ward. Much of what I had excluded from my diet was presented to me on the tray for lunch and dinner over the course of the first day.Not only was sugar and salt included in the meals but it was there in abundance. Observing other patients in the ward the most obvious condition was overweight. The question we all face is how to get rid of it?While my legs, arms and upper body are relatively fat free my mid spare tyre and obvious deep fat around essential organs has seemed impossible to shift. After 2 years at the gym and a careful diet of less meat and more fish has not seen any change. So what am I doing wrong? What steps do I need to take to achieve weight loss when it is all about weight gained? The latter has piled on over the years…

Flat Design Vs Flat Design 2.0

By Maria Williams Flat design is a web design trend standing for minimalism and cleanness in the website industry. This trend has become popular since 2012, replacing the Skeuomorphism trend - the most popular trend until then. Unlike skeuomorphism, which is characterized by real-life 3D objects and shiny buttons, this design is recognizable for its plain shapes and objects; not generating depth, dimension or any effects, such as drop shadows, highlights and realistic textures. The goal of this type of design is users to put their focus on the content, by providing faster and more functional user experience. People undoubtedly are associating this trend with simplicity and cleanliness, modern and colourful. The biggest advantage is mentioned in the compatibility with responsive design. Users easily embraced the trend because it offered them quick and easy content access. They are able to use the websites very easily and the loading time is faster. Flexible framework - grid is allowing …

10 Useful Running Tips for Effective Weight Loss

By Blessing BabalolaRunning is a great exercise for the mind and body. It is a great way to improve fitness and give your mood a boost. I personally enjoy my time out running because I can always feel my mind being unclogged and liberated from everything going on around me. It improves the health of the heart, it reduces the risk of many illnesses including stroke, heart diseases and type 2 diabetes.Running is especially good for weight management or weight loss. Let's assume you burn 300 calories from a 30 minutes running session, if you run at least 5 times in a week, that's an easy 150 minutes of aerobic exercise per week (which comes highly recommended by the American Heart Association). That sounds like a lot of benefits from just running a few miles early in the morning. As simple as running can be, as beneficial it is to the body and mind, especially for weight loss, there is a correct way of doing it (that means there are also wrong ways of doing it, wow). The purpose …

Three Things You Need To Know About Electro-Mechanical Assemblies

By Morris Raymond It's no secret that we live in an automated world that seems to be moving at a mile a minute in terms of how fast the technology behind the automation moves. Most of us tend to admire the way things around us move and work, but for those who work in industries that manufacture these 'things', they are more concerned with the ins and outs of the electro-mechanical assemblies that are the heart of our automated environment. So, you may be asking yourself, "What exactly are electro-mechanical assemblies?" It's a good question with a basic answer but not near enough time to describe the scope with which these little mechanical miracles make our lives easier. Per The Engineering Council out of London, these types of "devices convert electrical energy into mechanical movement". Basically, electricity creates movement which, in turn, leads to a function taking place. An example of this would be the robotic arms heavily used in manufacturi…

What I Learned About Visiting Space Center Houston

By Morris Raymond Space Center Houston is one of the great places to visit in the country if you're a fan of space and science. It is located near Houston, Texas, one of the biggest cities in the United States. Space Center Houston's proximity to Houston is important to note because Houston is known as Space City, USA (think "Houston, we have a problem" fame), and stands as a behemoth in many industries, and has made a name for itself as one of the premier destinations not just in Texas but on an international level. The city serves as a host to an incredibly diverse population. If you're a fan of the space program and are on the edge of your seat when it comes to the wonder of space in general, Space Center Houston is your ultimate destination. It doesn't get much cooler than this, and since it's opening in 1992, over 10,000,000 guests (this is a conservative figure) would probably concur that Space Center Houston is the place to go for getting up close …

The Best Family Vacation Destinations Have This In Common

By Morris Raymond A family vacation destination is something that's intriguing simply because it carries so much weight. On one hand, the idea that where you go for a family vacation can be thought-provoking seems silly because vacations are supposed to be about relaxing and attaining the ultimate "chill". On the other hand, if you happen to choose the wrong place to spend your vacation, not only will you be miserable, but your family will have no problem reminding you about how miserable they are as well.Luckily for all of us, we tend to choose the best place for our getaways the majority of the time. What's more, even though some families choose to return to the same place every year, a lot of us enjoy the variety that comes with different vacation destinations. Maybe the language is different. Maybe you're having to figure out the local currency. The idea of the "new" is too alluring to pass up. These are the vacations that are lifelong memories. The…

Forgiveness Is Important

By Oliver JR CooperThe other day I was talking to someone who spoke about what a friend of theirs had done in the past and it was clear that they hadn't been able to move on from what had happened. A number of years had passed since that time, but it was as if it had happened the day before.Hearing about this reminded me of the challenges I have had with my mother, and how hard it has been for me to gradually move on from what took place during my early years. It was irrelevant as to how many years had passed since that time, as I wasn't able to simple let go and to live in the now.TrappedDuring the beginning of my healing journey, my mind was often consumed by what my mother had or hadn't done. This then stopped me from being able to detach from what was taking place within me.I was often filled with anger, rage, and even hate; part of me wanted revenge. And, due to how strong this part of me was, it would take over my whole being and stop me from being able to be a cons…

Moved to Tears and Loving Acts by Witnessing Kindness

By Margaret Paul, Ph.D.Have you ever been moved to tears by acts of kindness? This happens to me all the time and I've often wondered about it.I recently read an article by Daniel Burke, CNN Religion Editor, where he wrote about tearing up at watching the Pope's kindness. He wrote: "I was surprised to find my eyes tearing, accompanied by a short burst of benevolence. I felt a brief urge to hug everyone in the room. (I am not a hugger.)"Covering my tears' tracks, I turned to a colleague. He was emotional, too."Burke wondered why this occurs. He discovered that it is quite common and is even contagious. Some psychologists have called this emotion "elevation." This feeling not only can move us to tears, it can also move us toward caring acts with others, because it creates a feeling of oneness with others. This is Very Good News! This is good news because the more we feel a sense of oneness with each other, the less we will act out in ways that hurt ea…

New Hope: Treating Bipolar Disorder With Gut Bacteria

By Susan Navarez Diane Ellis has been on medication for bipolar disorder for nearly 19 years now. Distressed most of the time because of the crippling nature of the disease, which engulfs one in a cycle of depression and mania/hyper mania, there is now hope for Ellis. She is all set to become one of the first recipients of poop therapy, a unique treatment for bipolar disorder, launched by a Canadian doctor, Dr. Valerie Taylor. There were days when depression made it difficult for Ellis to get out of bed, and on other days, the blackouts (associated with the mania phase) tormented her. Now hopeful that the treatment involving good bacteria of the gut will be effective, Ellis looks forward to that day when she would not require medications for coping with the defect when her body would develop the capacity to look after itself.Another woman from Australia, who experimented with the same treatment under the expert guidance of her therapist, said it worked wonders. In her blog, Jane Sulli…

Men, Speak Up and Feel Better

By Steve WickhamI was at a family get together of a close friend some time ago that featured a conversation that left several of us uncomfortable for what was said by one of their number. There was nothing aggressive said, nobody was attacked, other than one family member in question. Their attitude to their own life left us with nothing to say. They were vocal, and it was clear we were all stumped. They simply said it was none of anyone else's business how long they lived and how they died.Their immediate family was present. They heard it said. In their demeanour, they accepted that they couldn't change the attitude presented. I'm not sure what each individual thought, but I was thinking, 'Don't these people mean enough to you for you to not harm yourself?' Even if I'd vocalised it I doubt it would have made any impact. And how can you say something like that without saying, 'You're selfish!' So desperately sad! We've all faced such moments,…

Discovery of Link Between Autism and Cerebral Palsy

By Shalini Madhav Autism and cerebral palsy, two seemingly different disorders were recently found to share a common genetic signal. Autism is a developmental disorder which impairs a person's ability of communication and interaction. There are different types of autism possible due to differences in environmental and genetic combinations. Estimates say that around one third of people suffering from autism actually remain non verbal. Cerebral palsy seems to be entirely disconnected with autism. It is a genetically inherited disorder of person's posture and movements. This disorder makes certain parts of the body immobile and can affect both voluntary as well as involuntary muscles. The LinkA research on genetic expression among children suffering from cerebral palsy was recently carried out on a large scale. Adelaide university researchers discovered a genetic signal which is found to be common to both people affected by cerebral palsy as well as people affected by autism. The…

Strong Papillary Light Reflex in Infants Linked to Later Autism Diagnosis

By Shalini Madhav How many of you like to travel? As human beings, almost all of us hold within them desire to travel, visiting previously unseen places, exploring uncharted territory (though, quite frankly, there aren't many places which can claim to be uncharted territory in this century of ours). Now, the point is, could all of us, or could any of us, our love for travel notwithstanding, be able to actually enjoy travelling and the associated benefits like getting to see new places, getting to learn about a new culture etc. unless we had the power of sight, isn't it??Importance of eyesI mean, how could we gasp at the sight of the now extinct Fiji volcano, or how could we enjoy the lush greenery of the Canadian woods, or say, how could we see the almost dreamlike Taj Mahal on a moonlit night, or, how could we see the love our parents had or still have for us if we did not possess this God given power of eyesight?Medical ailments associated with the eye It is in these circum…
